I know that sounds really gross and i'll spare you pictures, but we now know what's in our spit here at the Davis house! I recently discovered that 5 of us have yeast overgrowth in our bodies-Yuck! This explains a lot of symptoms that we and our children have been having, like major sugar cravings, hyper-activity, sleeplessness, recurrent ear infections, etc. I ran across a website that not only helps you figure out if you have yeast overgrowth, but also how to treat it and beat it, and all the info is free. So we are now on a candida diet overhaul. That means way limiting or eliminating all sugar and yeast and taking lots of supplements until we can get this under control. I am in the process of figuring out which supplements will work for us and how to go about life without yeast and sugar. The diet calls for even more strict diet restrictions, but we are starting gradually and will work to get our children used to this idea a little at a time.
So, do you want to know if you or your family have a candida overgrowth? The spit test is very easy. It may not be the most precise testing, but it seems to give results.
Set out a glass of water one night for each person you are testing. You need to use glass so you can see in it. The next morning, have each person spit 2 times in the glass as soon as they wake up. Then wait and/or watch....
If your spit dissapates or disappears, you are fine.
If your spit sinks to the bottom, is webby, or stringy, you have a yeast over growth.
If you see brown settlement at the bottom, you have parasites!
As I said, 4 out of 5 of us had signs of a yeast overgrowth. I can't test the baby because she won't spit on demand ; ), but i am quite sure she has this too.
If you have ever been on antibiotics, you can assume you probably have a yeast overgrowth. Yeast is a fungus and thrives on sugar, yeast, and mold. I didn't realize that cheese can be considered in the mold family because it is aged so long. We LOVE cheese! And sugar is in everything. You really have to learn to read labels and look for this stuff in addition to preservatives, hydrogenated oils, and Monosodiumglutamate (MSG).
The website has lots of info on how to do all of this and i recommend checking it out www.yeastinfectionadvisor.com Let me know if you try the spit test, and what your results are!
